Some Interesting Facts About Tea
Black, green, white, and oolong teas derive their leaves from a warm-weather evergreen tree known as Camellia sinensis. The leaves from this tree contain polyphenols. The more processing tea leaves undergo, the darker they will turn. Green tea and white tea are the least processed tea as they are simply steamed quickly.
Why are teas so beneficial? Tea ranks as high as or higher than many fruits and vegetables in the ORAC score, a score that measures antioxidant potential of plant-based foods.
Green Tea
Green tea has become the most popular drink of the 'tea revolution', as knowledge of the antioxidant properties and the great range of health benefits of this beverage increases. Some common, widely held beliefs about the benefits of drinking Green Tea include; *Lower risk of cancer, stroke & heart disease * Lower blood pressure * Slowing tooth decay * Inhibiting viruses (boosting the immune system)
White Tea
White tea is derived from the young new leaves from the Camellia plant in early spring. These young leaves contain no chlorophyll, so they are silvery white. Long ago white tea was a rarity reserved for Chinese royalty who treasured its delicate, wonderfully calming nature.
Black Tea
Where green tea may be the beverage of choice in much of the Far East, elsewhere in the world, particularly in Europe and the Middle East, black tea reigns supreme. While fewer studies have examined its heart-healthy properties, recent studies in leading medical journals declare black tea a potential; heart tonic, cancer blocker, fat buster, immune stimulant, arthritis soother, virus fighter and cholesterol detoxifier. Further processed than green or white tea, black and oolong teas are partially dried, crushed and fermented.
